I need help into Nursing.

Hello Evryone,

I came into the country (los Angeles-cerritos) newly as a permeant resident.i have a good passion of taking care of people and have interest going into nursing programmes.

I want to know the best route for me as a new person who want to do it.I am a graduate of engineering from my country and I want a route that will allow me to work and study.what is different between America red cross centre to community colleges in nursing program in future.

If your degree is recognized in the US, it's a good idea to look at accelerated BSN and 2nd degree BSN programs.

Thank you , Nick for offering me a little insight. my degree from home country ( one of the african countries)is not recognise accord what I found out on ground.And the processes get certified with it takes more time and the pay is not encouraging.

I want go into nursing fully but I need a route that will allow me to work and study.Someone is suggesting CNA to me then subsequent studies but in America red cross centre here in los Angeles.Do u know the different between it and other community colleges in nursing and employability rates.

A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is an unlicensed (in most states) caregiver. It is not necessary to be a CNA before entering nursing school.

I am currently in an Accelerated BSN (2nd degree) program and I have classmates from Angola and Zimbabwe. One of them got a degree in English Literature and the other in Mental Health/Social Work. As long as you take the required prerequisite classes (biology, microbiology, anatomy, chemistry, etc.), I don't see why you couldn't get into one of these programs. As someone with an engineering degree, I'm sure you've gotten some of the prerequisite courses out of the way. It's not about the type of degree (we have people in my program who graduate with art degrees), it's just that you have a Bachelor's degree at all and you've taken the required courses. I would say that you should find work, any work that you can find, and enroll in classes at a cheap, local community college to finish any courses you have not taken. Then, apply to an ABSN/2nd degree BSN program. Let me know if you have any questions. I could even get you in touch with my classmates from Africa to give you advice.
