CES advice for an ROK RN

World Registration

Published

I am an RN from South Korea who has now permanently relocated to the US with my husband who is a US citizen. I would like to continue working as an RN here in the US, so I need to have my South Korean credentials (education and license) evaluated. My husband and I are currently residing in VA, however we will be relocating next January when my husband begins graduate school. Unfortunately we do not yet know which school he will be attending and in which state we will be living, and we probably won't be able to know until Novemberish, but I do not want to wait that long to get this process started as I have heard it can take quite awhile to complete. So my question is, if I get a CES report done for, say Virginia, and assuming my credentials pass, which they certainly should, will I be able to use this CES report for another state later, or will I have to pay another $350 to CGFNS and go through the whole process again? And if that is the case, would I be better of just waiting until we know for sure where we will be living (keeping in mind this will keep me from working for that much longer).

In addition I am wondering if there are any reliable alternatives to CGFNS. I have begun the CES application process and have encountered a number of issues with their website and am confused with some of their instructions. Has anyone else faced these sorts of difficulties and are there any reliable alternatives to CGFNS? In fact one of their questions on the application asks why you (the applicant) chose CGFNS over other credentialing companies, which I thought was quite funny because to my knowledge they are the only one that exists, but certainly this question implies that there are others? Is this true? If so, who are they?

I would like to say thanks in advance for any help that anyone can provide on this topic. This has been quite a stressful experience already and it feels like I've barely begun! So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some states will accept credential service other than CGFNS but it will all depend on which state you end up going to . You should be able to get another report sent but usually a fee is involved
