will np get full autonomy in california in the future?

Specialties NP

I know the nursing lobby tried to pass this bill in 2015, but it got denied. One of my goals is to open a derm practice, however there are a lot of political issues involved in the state of cali. Needing a supervising physician and possibly those who have similar specialty as you. For a supervising physician do you really need a MD with similar scope of practice?

The reason I ask this was because I was looking at some practices around my area and a lot of the MD hire pa/np and they come from backgrounds such as internal medicine/emergency medicine etc.. Nothing related to derm, yet their practice is operating like so.

I'm not sure I understand what your question is. Also, are you an NP?

1. There is no legislation currently in the works to give California NPs full practice authority. I'm sure it will happen at some point, but don't hold your breath.

2. An MD can hire an NP or PA and train them in the MD's speciality. This is normal. So a Dermatologist could hire an FNP and train the NP in dermatology. There are only 1 or 2 derm NP programs in the US now.
