What's next after you pass the exam?

Specialties NP

Hey,

I have recently taken the ANCC FNP exam and passed. I have been applying for jobs and completed some interviews. What I'm not sure about is all the technical stuff like getting the DEA and provider #. Does all that information come with our certification from ANCC? I don't feel like that was explained to me during my graduate courses and now I just feel ignorant. Is there something I can be doing while waiting for ANCC to mail my cert or do I have to wait on them? Can I work before I get it from them?

I appreciate any and all help on this.

Thank you,

Lp

First step is getting your state license/registration/certification as a NP

After that you can then apply for a DEA # once you have the authority to rx medications. A few states like Ca and Co require significant practice hours before having rx authority.

NPI you can apply for online once you get your state credential.

Thanks! I called ANCC and they are sending the verification to Colorado so now I have to wait until I get papers from them to get NPI? I know I will have to work 1800 hours before getting prescriptive authority. Is this all that has to be done?

Hmmm the fun part and the hodgepodge of state laws out there and keeping up with them.. There is practically a different answer for each state in the union. I would say license than NPI number than whatever your state allows….
