Recertification of dual NP board certification - FNP and ACNP

Hi,

I'm currently board certified as an ACNP through ANCC. I am looking to get a post-master's cert as an FNP. Can anyone tell me what the requirements are to recertify when you hold dual-certification? Do all of the requirements (practice hours, continuing education, professional development, etc) need to be doubled? Or is there any overlap?

Thank you! I can't seem to find this info anywhere.

My certs do not fall within the same year, I use all my contact hours for both, this has never been an issue, I just have to watch the years the CE were offered. They have to be within 5 years. I have never been questions about if my practice hour cover acute or primary. I did my ACNP and FNP back to back (with no break in between) from the same school. Actually, the last semester of acute clinical hours I also did my first semester of clinical hours of family.

Lubbock - That's good to know. I wasn't sure how rigid they would be. I've not yet had to renew my board certification as I'm a relatively new NP. In what area do you work? Do you see primary and acute issues?

I work in a state large medical/psych prison, currently h working as hospitalist with lots of cancer pts. I worked for six years before that in outpt clinic in prison doing primary care. I am trying to get on with the VA. I had second interview yesterday.

Oh wow, that sounds intense. I hear working with the VA has great benefits. :) Good luck to you!

Thanks for the info about dual certification, Suite1022! I had similar questions also. I was wondering if you considered certification through AANP?

Jen - I had not considered certification through AANP. When I graduated, our program coordinator directed us to ANCC and I did not ask any questions. I think that was the certifying body that offered board certification for ACNPs. I don't know if that was for better or worse, but it has not yet caused me any trouble.

When I graduated with ACNP, ANCC was the only cert body, so I have always kept both ACNP and FNP through them.
