Questions regarding becoming an NP

Specialties NP

I am asking some questions for my coworker who would like to become an adult NP. She is an RN and has a Master's in Nursing Administration. She has 22 years of RN experience in Thailand and 1 year exp here. She would like to know how long it would take her to become an NP, and the approximate cost of this. Thank you! Any replies are appreciated!

I suggest looking at whether she wants to do distance or attend school.. f/t or p/t. Perhaps view all 4 scenarios...

There are so many variables on this....that a person really needs to look into it himself as there are SO many options at hand... that being said any advice you receive from your question will be useless/useful depending if your friend and a poster are looking at the same scenario of many.

I'd suggest your friend nail down some variables and then post what he / she is looking at for feedback on refined advice~

Best way is to inquire in person or call graduate program admissions directors. She can narrow down her school search via AANP's program list http://66.219.50.180/AANPPublicPages/npprogramlistingcrit.asp. This search tool is not accurate but a good way to start. If she earned her undergrad degree in Thailand, programs may require an education credentials evaluation service to determine if her degree is equivalent to a US-based BSN program. The same may apply if her Master's is from a foreign country as well. Some programs require passing the CGFNS exam for foreign nursing school grads. There is no straight answer as to how long it will take her to finish. Cost varies depending on type of school (private or public) she chooses to attend.
