Obtaining Furnishing License after 15 years

I Need Help! I graduated in 2000 and want to obtain my furnishing license with eventual DEA. Ive read the BRN, California but it states that I need to submit a letter from my current employer (which I dont have) plus a copy of the advance pharm class taken. Two of which I dont have.

Does anyone have any insight or in the same position as I am as to how to go about it, Ive called and emailed, with no response.

Thanks.

I assume you mean prescribers license? I think you will have to take a pharm class and get a national certification..... Why now and not 16 years a go?

Just so you know, the California board takes a long time to respond to inquiries, and months to process license applications. So if you emailed them or left them a voicemail it may be a while before you hear back from them.

You said that you graduated from NP school in 2000. Did you actually apply for an NP license? Have you been working as an RN or as an NP since then, and in what state? In California, you need a furnishing certificate number and a DEA number in addition to the NP license in order to prescribe. To get the furnishing number you have to have completed advanced pharm in grad school within the past 5 years or letters from employers showing 5 years of work history as an NP. They used to allow applicants in your situation to take the advanced pharm course from certain continuing ed providers like the California Association of Nurse Practitioners. But their current form says that they do not accept continuing ed courses now. Since you've been out of school 15 years and you don't have the NP work history, I would suggest that you send them a letter via snail mail to ask what your options are.

PM'd you
