NP refresher course

I have been out of school for 9yrs was initially certified by AANP as FNP, but let that certification lapse (starting family, taking care of children, etc). I'm now ready to begin practice, but I have to retest to become certified again. Any advice on refresher courses, course of action, etc. Anyone else have this same experience. I have been working as a RN during part of that time, so I'm not totally out of the healthcare loop, but I do need updating. Was considering a Fitzgerald course (they don't offer a refresher, just the exam prep course). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You know that is a good question. I work in a rural environment and I know in the world "of all things new" things are probably passing me by. I try to stay updated but there is nothing like a concentrated program.

The live Fitzgerald programs I have ever attended have been great:

1) Pharmacology update

2) Certification prep

There was always multiple times during the programs for questions/discussion.

I have been to more than several programs where she was also one of the speakers i have always found her to be a very knowledgeable woman who is easy to approach and talk to.

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

I took the fitzgerald program at home, the CDs came with a book, the only thing i didnt like about it is that you have to download extra reading material., it came to be just as thick as the book. I would think that for the money i spent on the board review, they would include this material. Other than that, it is a great review.
