First NP job, what do you think?

So, I finally landed my first NP job. It's with a cardiology group affiliated with a major medical center/teaching hospital. Full benefits. Work schedule is 5 days per week, M-F, 8-5. No weekends, no call, no nights, and no holidays. Salary offered was excellent for a new grad. I will be seeing patients primarily on an outpatient basis and working in the EP department of the cardiology division. I will be in clinic two days per week with the attendings and the other days spent scheduling procedures, which is fine with me. So, this was my second job offer for an NP job. (I declined on the first one because it was out of state and I didn't want to relocate and leave my family). This job is about 30 minutes drive from where I live, so not too bad.

Overall, I'm very happy with this job offer, but I have nothing to compare it with. What do you guys think?

Wow, no weekends, no call!! Sounds wonderful.

SOunds comparable to what our local cardiology practice offers....they have about 14-18 providers.

What geographical location? What was the salary? Did they offer tuition remession? How many days of vacation a year? Insurance?

The job description sounds ok but I would need to know the numbers before I could ever decide if a job offer was good or not!

The geographical location is a suburban area, about 20 minutes from a huge city. It's perfect for me because it's not too far from where I will. All the amenities are close by. I didn't really need tuition remession, but they do offer tuition packages for people who want to go back to school. Salary in the 80sK, which, I think, is pretty good for a new grad. I believe it's about 3.5 weeks of vacation per year. Insurance there is awesome. Group health and dental plans are fairly inexpensive and cover 100% with exception of a 15 dollar copay. included also. Like, I said, all of the benefits are there including a retirement plan and disability.

What I have found is that is that hospitals offer better benefit packages than private practice offices, particularly when it comes to the insurance benefit. Many private physician offices don't offer dental insurance also.

I think the best part is my schedule. So glad I don't have to go in on the weekends. Many private practice groups make NPs do that and even take call. I'm sure there might be better deals out there, but I am looking for a good lifestyle too and don't want my work to control my life. Everybody's priorities are different.

It sounds great! As long as everyones cool and there is potential to grow (even salary wise) it seems like a great place to start off as a new grad NP, congrats!

Did you have any experience as a RN and if so what was your speciality?

Im just now getting my engines revved up to start NP school next summer. Still debating if ill hold out for CRNA school but being a NP does seem really cool and better intellectual work compared to bedside stuff.

Jerryl, yes I had experience as an RN in the area of cardiology and CV surgery. I'm really glad I went the NP route. I have a friend who is CRNA school and she likes it too, but I really enjoy interacting with the patients in the outpatient setting. I loved all of my clinicals when I was in school too.
