Has anyone had a smooth and positive experience with an online or hybrid nurse practitioner program in the DFW or surrounding area? We moved to Fort Worth last year from Idaho to be able to complete a nurse practitioner program. Some that I have been looking into are Texas Tech in Lubbock, UTA's online program based in Arlington, Texas A&M based in Corpus Christi, and Texas Women University based in Dallas. If you have any input about any program, I would appreciate it very much.

Also, which NP track (FNP, adult, acute care) would be best for someone like me who wants to assist in surgery and follow up with surgical patients in the hospital? I've been working in surgery for over 7 years as a certified surgical technologist and RN.

Thank you very much in advance for any information and advice!

I don't know which is best so I can't help you there. I went to UT Arlington and liked it a lot. A god portion of the first part of the program can be done online. The second half is more of a hybrid program where you only have to go to class every other week or so. Advanced Assessment was every Saturday for most of the semester. They were generally very helpful in helping you find a preceptor or at least in the first part of the program. If I were you I would do acute care. The FNP will teach you all about PAPs, HTN, etc. but I can't see how it would prepare you at all for a career in the hospital.

Carachel2 - Thank you very much for your input. I appreciate it very much.
