Hi All,

I am currently licensed in the state of Pennsylvania as a CRNP and trying to apply for an APN in NJ by Endorsement. What is the process like? How long does it take? and is it worth it?

I tried calling the NJ BON on the phone (after almost an hour of waiting) to confirm the process and according to them I have to apply first as an RN (which will take between 8-10 weeks) and then apply as an APN (which will take another 8-10 weeks). This seems like a ridiculous amount of time just to get a license to practice across the bridge. Any thoughts?

I can only speak about the RN license. It seriously took forever! I moved to North Jersey after I graduated and took the boards before some of my classmates and they had their license weeks before me! NJ required extra things like fingerprinting. Its been awhile since I did it so I don't remember everything I had to do. Good luck.

I am in the same position. I am currently licensed in PA as a RN and CRNP. I got a job in NJ Sept 9th and immediately applied for the RN in NJ. The process is pretty painful and you'll get the run around if you call. To be very frank I wrote a letter to the governor complaining about how the BON treats their nurses. Miraculously I received my license about a week later...coincidence? I have no idea what could possible take them so long but I have dealt with California and PA now who have both been better and that is saying a lot because CA has a bad rep for taking a long time. I am now dealing with trying to get my APN. I sent it in Oct 24th and have heard NOTHING since. I have tried calling (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME - PLEASE DO NOT POST NAMES PER TERMS OF SERVICE) who provided me with a number but she never answers and it always says her voicemail is full. I've heard the APN is even worse than getting your RN so wish me luck.

As for now your best bet is to get everything in as soon as possible. Call your school, call the ANCC, and hassle the BON. I also heard that if you show up in person to the BON you may get your license on the spot. Good luck!!
