I am glad I read this. I did AD USAF Nurse corps straight out of my BSN and hated it the entire 6 years years I was in due to the EXACT SAME CONDITIONS. I was considering USPHS now as an FNP because I would like to eventually get a military retirement and thought USPHS might be a better choice, but it sounds like the exact same BS as any other armed service nurse corps.
