  1. Hope this can be helpful for you. I just received an email from an employer about this very type of program, see below... "We are seeking Nurse Practitioners to work for us in the Houston, Texas area. Our work week is Monday through Saturday. Since we offer a flexible work week, you can choose the days you want to work or you can choose to work full-time -- 5-6 days a week. You will be employed as an independent contractor. We offer competitive pay for this position. We are a healthcare solutions organization that provides health risk assessments on behalf of Health Plans. Our services enable Medicare Advantage Plans to improve and meet the CMS 5-Star Rating Objectives. As a Nurse Practitioner for our company you will visit Medicare patients within a home setting and perform a health risk assessment which takes about 60-90 minutes per assessment. We generally book 8-10 appointments per day for a scheduled work day. We schedule and confirm the appointments and provide you with a Daily Work Schedule Report that details all the necessary information for the patients you are to see. Our office team is available throughout the day to provide support to you while visiting the patients." Okay so the flexibility does sound great but Im not sure about spending 1-1.5 hours in a persons home. Also why are these visits so lengthy? My other concern is that they will book 8-10 visits a day. When you include drive time/traffic that is way more than an 8 hour day; how far apart are the homes? Also if someone decides not to be available at the time you arrive at the home what type of compensation is there for the effort?. Initially I saw these types of positions as a possible solution to the Mon-Fri office grind but now im not sure. It would definetly be nice to hear from those already in the field!
  2. Anyone know if you are able to telecommute in Healthcare IT?
  3. Ok, although I am searching for NP jobs. Im sure the instructions are the same right?
  4. Wow, thanks for your insight! Did you receive the 20,000-25000 dollar nursing bonus? Did they pay off all of your student loans? Also, what did you end up getting into afterwards, if you don't mind me asking?
  5. Cool, thanks for that reply. That is an awesome benefits package but it seems close to impossible to get a position in the VA system????
  6. Please share your work experience, ease in finding a government position, perks/incentives, pros/cons of membership, recommendations etc. Thanks!
  7. Hey pinkbubbles, my store closed in May as well, wasnt making enough money. Ive been working per diem ever since. Yet another reason why I wouldnt recommend these clinics as they tend to have a high rate of turnover and clinic closures!
  8. Dancingnurse-I would really advise against it. I would focus my efforts on finding a supportive primary care practice. Be sure it is one that is open to new grads so that you will have the mentorship and guidance you need.
  9. Awesome, thanks for the reply!
  10. Ginger-are you a PMHNP? Do you see children, adults or both?
  11. Hello Ginger Here in Houston you can expect around $42/hour as a new grad in the Retail setting (Minute Clinic etc) + 45/hour for weekend differentials. Im currently working per diem at $50/hour. Your wage sounds a little low for your area though, it may depend on the specialty???
  12. Hey Toddy-Im in Houston as well. What setting do you work in? How many yrs of experience do you have? I brought home 98k last year working in the Retail Setting (Minute Clinic), that was with some OT and bonus incentives though.
