Alternate Entry NP Speciality Advice

Specialties NP

hi everyone!

i'm looking into starting a alternate-entry msn program and becoming a np. i don't have any nursing experience but have worked in healthcare for a number of years and have my own personal healthcare experiences from growing up with type 1 diabetes. i have decided that i would like work with babies but i know becoming a neonatal np without nursing experience will not be possible because most programs require at least 2 years of nursing experience. i would love any advice on possible other specialties or steps to take that could eventually help me reach my goal of working in a nicu.

thanks so much!!!!

Hmmm - if NNP is your goal, I would advise getting an accelerated BSN, working for a couple of years in a NICU and then going the NNP route.

I don't know of any programs that don't require NICU experience.

There are programs out there for people who have a bachelorette degree to enter into a program that gives you a RN in the first two years and your NP in the third. I know Yale School of Nursing is one that has a Graduate Entry Prespecialty in Nursing (GEPN) program. You can specialize in pediatric or neonatal tracks. If you do not have a bachelor degree I would go through a general nursing program and then enter a NP program.
