I just recently took the ACNP exam and failed by 3 points :angryfire. Just wondering if any of you had a semilar experience and which resource you thought was most helpful in being successful at passing the exam?

hey all, with regard for the fitzgerald book... it does not appear specific to acnps. i would be concerned it'd give too much information and i'd feel overwhelmed. what did ya'll think about that? was it an issue? was it primary care focused? thanks!

fitzgerald's review material is specific for acnp:

look at the online store for the cds, tapes, etc., for the acnp.

well, that is good to know. my pharm instructor had a cd with all of his lectures on it and he was a dragggggggggggggggggggg. it would have been a driving hazard had i listened to it while commuting. :lol2: right now, there are none on ebay... but i'll keep an eye out since i probably won't be able to test until feb anyway. i also posted an ad in the classifieds here, in case someone else has them.

and yea! i completely understand why you chose wisely!!! i was lucky that i found the todd book on ebay for so cheap... and actually, i received the barkley book as a... "gift." :) how soon after you graduated were you able to test? our instructor said that the earliest anyone has taken the exam after dec graduation is feb. does that seem right to you?

the summer and winter graduates from batch 2003 were actually unable to test until march 2004! the test was unavailable from ancc from mid-september 2003 because ancc was revising the content and was not to re-open the exam until early march 2004. that really ticked the grads who finished by the end of the spring/summer semester but didn't really affect me as i finished in december and figured i'd need at least 3 months to prepare for the test anyway so i took the exam in april 2004. i also focused on job hunting at the time and was actually offered a position even before i took the test.

technically, you can take the test as soon as you're done. one over-achieving grad from our school who finished after the summer semester in 2003 was able to test in september that year a few days before the exam was closed temporarily by ancc. what delays the exam process is when it takes ancc a long time to receive the transcript of records from the school you graduated from. the records of hours of clinical rotation are typically released by the program directors right away but some universities take a while to grant degrees and release official transcript of records.

yes, that's what's concerning me. my school officials are slackers... *lol* my lead instructor and director said that the earliest she knew of anyone taking the exam after a dec grad was february. guess i just need to enjoy the holidays and use it as a break... and a job-finding time. although, i hope to secure an offer before this semester is over.
