Hi dear colleagus:

Hope you are enjoying your career in nursing. I would like to ask if you have an idea based in study of calculating staff turnover and absenteeism per year? I will be grateful to you if you support the answer with article.

I would be happy to help but I am afraid I do not understand the question. Ill respond with what I think you are asking and hopefully it helps.

Turnover is typically calculated by looking at total employees and then looking at how many have left...giving you a percentage. However, a lot of organizations also look at turnover in different groups (Ex: less than 1 year, 1-5 years, 5+ years).

Absenteeism is usually just institutional policy. Certain things are typically excused such as deaths in family and of course anything that qualifies for FML. Most organizations also factor in tardies in some way as well. I have worked at a hospital that caluculates tardies seperate from absences. I have also worked at an organization that used "occurrences" and for every 5 tardies you got an "occurrence"...each absence was 1 "occurrence". After so many occurrences you would get a discipline.

I don't really have any articles as these two items are just basic calculations but if I didn't understand the question let me know.

Dear jart,

Massive thank you to your brilliant understanding and answer that is what am looking for. I am trying to initiate Nursing KPI and calculating these to items by putting a definition and calculation. In my organisation we are calculating unplanned vacation" paid" e.g Emergency leave or sick leave as absence. I have done my research but what I have got is insufficient. Unfortunately I ave no idea how to attached the articles with my comment to share it with you. Again lots of thanks for your time and answer.
