Important Attributes of Being a Nurse

OKay, this might not be quite what you expected to find...

Last night we had five cops deliver a patient to one of my rooms. The kid (early 20's) was there for a psych eval and was surly, confrontational, and appeared volatile... but in a sneaky, underhanded sort of way. Kind of like a cross between Eddie Haskell and Mike Tyson. Made me very nervous.

Anyway, the cops won't touch them except in response to imminent or actual violent behavior and this didn't yet fit the bill.

So we're trying to secure IV access... I'm holding an arm for the gal who's going to do the poke... the guy looks at me and sneers, "You think you're strong enough to hold me?" I reply, "Nope, not at all... but pretty sure *he* is" as one of my colleagues walks in whose biceps are almost the size of my thighs.

Kinda bites when I rank being huge in my top 3 of desirable attributes of ED nurses.

Hey, use what ya got.
