I'm new to Fargo and am looking for advisement. I have been a SAHM for almost 2 yrs. I would like to return to work part-time. My past experience is 3 1/2 yrs CVICU and 8 mths Clinic manager. CVICU's 12 hr rotating shifts do not work for my life any more. I have been checking out the ER opportunities in the area and am interested. The problem is feeling anxiety due to the 2 yr lapse in practice. Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. I'm curious about orientation and williness of ER nurses to refresh a nurse with past experience? Thanks in advance and hope to hear many opinions!

I love the OR, and I know for a fact that we have some openings! You should try it out, give it a chance... I love it there, and I think you have nothing to lose by at least giving it a try! there's downtime on nights, but there's also nights you don't even have the chance to pee. We are never, ever expected to float anywhere (OR's gotta be manned at all times, and you don't go anywhere without the electronic leash, I mean beeper.) I knew early in school the OR was where I wanted to be, and I love it so far. I don't think its any harder than any other department to get into, so just go for it! Good luck to you if you apply. The one thing I liked was the fact that your orientation is a minimum of 6 months, and longer if you don't feel comfortable.
