Hi everyone!

I was wondering if there are any current students or former students of the Louise Harkey School of Nursing - Cabarrus College of Health Sciences? If so, can you tell me anything about the admissions process? Really, I was wondering if the decision is based more on high school grades or college grades. I had a 3.986 gpa in high school (As and Bs in Algebra I, II, Geometry and BIO courses) and an overall GPA in College of 3.5. I also have been a CMA (certified medical assistant) for the past 5 years and I was wondering if prior healthcare experience is considered as well. I am currently taking chemistry because that is needed to be considered for admission and I was told that they will need a report from my instructor prior to October 1 (admissions deadline) to show what my current grade is (so far a 96 average-thanks to my love of math lol). Sorry to ramble but any info that you can provide will be helpful : )

Thank you for your time :):redpinkhe;)

I know this is past the deadline, but they seem to go more by test scores (SAT, ACT), than anything. I've known people who have really good grades not be able to get in because they couldn't score high enough on the ACT. It sounds like you've got everything else covered since you're taking the Chemistry. Good luck to you! It's a great program.... but very intense!!!

Thanks for replying Mander! I turned in my application the last week of August. I went to open house since then just to have some of my questions answered. I am very excited and feel really good about my scores and grades. I will hope for the best and what ever happens.....happens for a reason :) Until then I shall play the waiting game! lol

I was wondering if you have heard yet whether you were accepted for Spring 2011 admission.

I haven't heard or received anything. I am beginning to worry. I haven't heard if anyone has been accepted, rejected or waitlisted either. :uhoh21:

I am a Cabarrus grad...you shouldn't have any problems getting in with those stats. Relax and enjoy their program. It's phenomenal!

Thanks spoiled1 but I found out today that I did not get in. I was offered a spot in the pre-nursing program though. My ACT was a 23 but my anatomy courses, I believe were told old (5 + years old) and plus I had not taken micro. I'm not sad though :) Basically, I have to get a B in Anatomy I & II and Micro. Everything else I was told is fine. I would be guaranteed Fall admission into the nursing program. So right now I am considering doing that or applying to Queens for fall. Just weighing out my options :) Thank you for your concern I really appreciate that!!

Well that's great!! If you can get into Cabarrus, then go for it. It is really a great program, you'll be well prepared for nursing! Good Luck.
