Hi,

I will be relocating to NC in February...I have been an LPN for the last 22 years...most of my experience has been in Long Term Care, with some hospital experience....I have been checking out the LTC facilities in the area..they don't seem to pay well, maybe I should try other types of facilities.....any suggestions would really help me....or even any info on LPN jobs in the Greenville area would really be appreciated...Thanks

Hi. I am a nurse in Greenville at PCMH. I would be happy to talk to you. Is there anything in particular that you want to know. I've lived here for years.

I started at the ECU nursing program and didn't care for it. Didn't really feel it was preparting me to be a nurse. So, I left and went to the local community college where I received an excellent education. I felt more prepared. Then, I returned to get my bsn at ECU.

Hi, NurseKim, Thank you so much for your reply!! I am so happy to be able to talk to a Nurse from the area...As I said, I am an LPN for the past 22 years but most of my experience is in LTC, presently with Alzheimer's Patients, I am so excited to be moving to Greenville but also very anxious, anything you can share would be helpful...are you an LPN also? How do like PCMH? Have you ever worked in any of the Nursing Homes? I also researched some prospective jobs online such as Physician's East, would you know anything about them...I will be renting a condo in Greenville for a few months until we (my husband and I) find a home..we are thinking about Winterville, my cousin lives there and loves it!! Sorry, I am going on and on but I am just so excited!!! Thanks again, can't wait to hear from you...Thanks:nuke:

Hi, again. I am an RN. I live in the Winterville area, which is nice, but there are many other areas which are nice as well--and not as busy. Yes, I am familiar with Physician's East as well as a few of the nursing homes and ALF's. Beverly, which is just across the street from the hospital is a good nursing home. Also, there are a few units in the hospital that concentrate on geriatric patients as well. You may want to call the recruiting office and ask. What brings you here? Just curious. I know several people from the Maryland/NY/NJ area who have recently moved this way for various reasons and really love it here. It is a much slower pace than where you are. My husband and I have a townhouse that we are trying to sell, but if you need a temp. place, we would consider it if it hasn't sold. (We just got married, and both had houses! We have to sell one!)

Good luck to you. If I can help further, I'll be glad to do so. Will you be bringing children? I have basically lived here all my life, so I can help with about anything. I moved to Memphis for three years, but really love the area, so had to move back!

Anyone here done it or doing it? Experiences? Advice? TIA!!!!

Taking online classes enables flexibility in your scedule. But you have to be steadfast and make yourself work when it is time to study. And the course work can be much more demanding than if you were just sitting in class. It depends on what kind of person you are. If you are organized and self empowered to take an online class than it maybe worth venturing. But if you are a social being and desire socialization that you receive in a formal classroom, than an online class may not be for you. All I can say is, try it. You may like it. And if worst comes to worse, you will know that you need a formal environment for learning. There are benefits to online classes. But its not for everyone.

Many of the smaller community hospitals in the area hire LPN's for the general med-surg areas. Some even hire LPN's into the ED. One facilty, Howell Center, is a long-term care facility for children and hires LPN's.

I attended the ECU RN-BSN program starting in '98 and graduated in '99. I was fully satisfied with the program. Received an excellent education for a nominal fee. The instructors were gifted and caring. At this time, they were beginning to integrate Internet courses and assignments into the program, and perhaps half of the content was delivered online. I chose the 3-semester track and attended campus on Thursdays and Fridays. Now ECU RN-BSN is totally online, which in my opinion, is much more convenient. Yes, I highly recommend this program. You can PM me for more information.

It is my understanding that the nursing staff/ administration in the PCMH-NICU prefer new grads over experienced nurses in other nursing specialties (such as med-surg). The NICU has recently been expanded, with many opportunities for new nurses. The hospital offers an extensive orientation and has a wonderful education department. PCMH is a magnet hospital and strives for a nurse-friendly and professional working environment.

I was an ECU nursing grad class of '02. I thought the nursing program was excellent. It definately prepared me for the NCLEX (we had about 96% pass rate). The professors were caring and the school and classmates felt like a home away from home. I also worked at Pitt when I was in nursing school as an CNA. I loved it there, I had no problem with any of the management when I interviewed or when I worked there. A lot of my clinicals were there too! I felt that units were well organized and that the nursing staff was generally happy with the units/hospital. Hope this helps. If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me.

I'm interviewing with PCMH this Tuesday, and I'm so nervous! I've been a homemaker for years, and it's been a long time since I've interviewed. Any advice?
