Duke Nursing Requirements

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

A nurse I work with is completing a MSN (acute care NP) program currently. She got her bachelors degree in business, then did an associates degree in nursing program. In her area, that allows you to go straight into a traditional MSN program without getting the BSN. She is from NC originally and dreams of working at Duke. We were looking at job requirements today and noticed they all say "A Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Nursing required." Will they really not hire a NP with a MSN simply because they don't have a BSN? Is that really required? Is she automatically eliminated from getting a job there now? I don't think you can do a RN-BSN program once you have your MSN (and it seems kinda silly). Thanks! :)

I have no idea about the requirements at Duke, but I would think not, but why else would it specifically mention both are required unless there are two different jobs, one requiring BSN and one requiring MSN.

Good luck in finding out the answer.

It seems to be the requirement for any advanced nursing position there.

Specializes in orthopedic/trauma, Informatics, diabetes.

I know they have an RN (I have an ADN) to MSN program that I could have applied to with my BS in Biology. My friend just applied, she has an ADN, and other higher degrees. She does not have to have a BSN to get into the MSN.

I would call.
