Hi Everyone, and congrats to you ABSN(hopeful seems unnecessary now!) I've been on allnurses for a bit, but never really looked for a Duke forum until recently. Mellzie- I'm in the same spot as you. I've already committed to MGH, but Duke really does have an unbelievable program. I'm actually thinking of attending Duke over MGH now. The two programs are different, MGH is a direct-entry into psych/ mental health for my specialty, but I'm starting to think it wouldn't be so bad being in school for a little less time and working for a few years after getting my BSN. There are also a lot of places that would pay for you to get your MSN. I can't complain at all, this is a great position to be in, but the decision is so hard!

I just accepted my spot to Duke. After a lot of thought I decided Duke really is the best choice for me now, and the extra experience I will get working as an RN will only make me a better NP in the future, even if it takes a few more year. I can't wait to get to know all of you and be part of the Duke nursing community!

Congrats, jbl!! I have your same thought process - I definitely want to work for awhile before doing any kind of MSN (not sure if I even WANT to do an MSN at all), so no rush there. I'm always surprised by people who have it all mapped out already, and we haven't even started the ABSN program yet! I get why people starting a second career might feel anxious to plan it out, but when you're 22/23, how do you even know for sure you want to be an NP, etc, if you have no experience? I have a feeling my ideas about nursing school and the areas I would like to work in are probably quite different from reality - looking forward to finding out for sure in a few months, ha ha! :)

I just got an email to complete the MADIN II Survey for fall 2016 cohort.... I really hope to qualify, because some of my prerequisites are in progress.
