What are the reasons nurses leave the NICU?

Specialties NICU

I've known since I was about 9 years old that I'm meant to be a NICU nurse.

I'm starting actual nursing courses in Jan, so I still have a journey ahead of me.

I like to be prepared and to look at things from every possible angle and I seem to research things to death. I'm wondering what the reasons are for nurses leaving NICU?

Thanks!

I think that if you worked NICU for a while then did something else for a while you would still have a hiring advantage over another experienced nurse that had never done NICU. As far as your commitment goes, you night be viewed as having the potential to be more committed. After all would be coming back and not likely to stray again. LOl.

I left the NICU for 3 months to try ER. I went back to my manager and told her it had made me realize that NICU was my niche, and that it took going somewhere else to realize it. She smiled, and said, "I knew it was your niche"...then put me back on the schedule.

Thank you all for your input!
