this might be kind of a weird question but is there a career that deals with baby's away from the hospital like follow up visits (besides a pediatrician) i would love to work with babies but would just wanna work with kids up to 2 or 3 years of age. I know that u can work in the neonatal unit of the hospital but is there just a specific type of doctor that works with babies up to about 2 years old thats not a pediatrician? lol weird question but i was just wondering. Thanks.

Our NICU has a preemie followup clinic that follows our grads for 3 years after they go home. We also go to the county health department to run the preemie clinic there. Our NNP's that work there have at least 3 years in the unit before they go there.

Home care is another option. Some nurses do many scheduled visits a day, while others actually work shifts as a private duty nurse. Lots of NICUs are sending home babies with oxygen, monitors, feeding tubes, sometimes even ventilators - and they all need nurses to help monitor them at home.

However, usually some hospital experience is preferred before you venture into the homecare setting. Definitely a good idea.

do u know if there are any preemie clinics in Jacksonville, FL? and about whut is the average salary for those who work in the preemie clinics?

You would have to call and ask the hospitals. Not all hospitals offer follow up with preemie clinics, they just have them go to the regular peds. We are one of the only in our area that follows kids for this long.
