Nec in the NICU

Specialties NICU

I know that there have been other posts on here but I hate nec. I lost one of my primaries to it. I was researching blood transfusions and nec and while I understand what I'm reading I just don't know why this has happened. In less than 24 hours had surgery and died. I had this baby a lot. What do u all do when handing over report and the finding out after u have left that baby went down so fast. Believe me I know the subtle symptoms and there were none. How do u all deal with it when it's you? Of course I would tell any other prudent nurse it wasn't their fault. But it doesn't help when it's you. So sad.

Unfortunately NEC can happen that fast. Just keep on being vigilant for subtle signs in the future. Trust your intuition if you think something is wrong, speak up and let docs or NNPs know. In the meantime, don't beat yourself up, and keep on loving the babies

I'm not superstitious and ascribe little to the supernatural.

But. . .

NEC is a about as close to believing in an evil entity as I will come.
