Moving to NYC

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi everyone, I'm from Montreal. My boyfriend is planning to study at NYC for 2 years and I would like to follow him.

The thing is that I'm beginner in English. I am really discourage, because it will take a eternity to study the NCLEX and the TOEFL-iBT.

Because of my English, I think that being a nursing assistant will be easier for me. What do you think? Can I easily found a job as a nursing assistant in NYC? What is the salary? Maybe I can work as a licenced pratical nurse?

Do you have any other ideas of jobs (nursing jobs or connexe jobs) that I could work once I arrived there?

Thank you very much!!!

What visa are you going to the US with? LPN will not meet NAFTA requirements

Hi! To be a nursing assistant, i think you only have to take the program for a few weeks so it's definitely a lot easier than studying to become a nurse. I'm not so sure about it's job prospect. I would think that there are a lot of demands for nursing assistants in nursing homes. I do see a lot of job listings for home health aides (HHA) in New York City so it might be another area that you can consider. And just like the CNA program, it only takes a few weeks of training to become a HHA and the salary for the two professions are relatively the same.

Thank you so much for your answer. :)

All moot point if you do not have a visa allowing you to live and work in the US
