Can anybody give me some current information about working at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx? I'm a new grad and might be considered for a job there, department to be determined. I know it's a big, busy hospital with a Level 1 Trauma ED, and I'm sure I would learn a lot. I also know it's supposed to be in a "rough" area, but that's about it. I'd like to hear from people who either work there now or did recently or are from that area and can give me accurate info about quality of care, hospital culture/morale, etc. Are the nurses generally happy? Are they treated with respect? How's their new grad training? Is the hospital clean? I also need to know accurate info about safety. How "rough" is the area? Are we talking muggings, drive-bys, violent patients in the ER and having to have pepper spray in hand on the street; or are we only talking about a poor area with certain "undesirable" aspects where you have to keep your head up, but that is generally safe to work in and walk around in? I'm a parent and have to be safe (and I need a JOB), but I don't want to overlook an opportunity to learn a lot and hopefully make a difference in an impoverished area simply because of an inaccurate reputation. Im not a nurse there, but i worked as a paramedic in that neighborhood for sometime. the area is one of the ruff ones in terms of quality of patients: gunshots, stabbings, shootings, ect.... but you are right behind a community college and there is an FDNY station on premise, you have HHC police in the hospital and you are a couple of blocks from a police precint and a subway(two blocks)... i would not turn this oppurtunity down because of the location... there are tougher places in the city

stilltarget, thank you very much for the helpful info. since you know the hospital pretty well, would your recommendation still be the same knowing that I'm a pretty tiny women with that corn-fed, Midwestern demeanor? I'm not meek, I can hold my own, but I can see how people might think I would stick out like a sore thumb.

I would say the same thing if you were 10lbs, 3feet tall. don't give up the opportunity..... you will be ok. :cool:

Hi,

I am a new grad also, and I might have an opportunity to work at Lincoln hospital. Can soemone tell me (who is currently working there, or who has previously worked there) if it is a safe hospital to work in. I, like Wonde.R.N am a spouse and parent, and of course need a job (like the rest of us) am I putting mysefl in danger to work at Lincoln Hospital? Any replies would be most appreciated.
