Calling NY RNs...help please....

U.S.A. New York

Hi everyone! I've been an RN in NY for 2 years now. I was trying to figure out what I am allowed to do without a doctor directing me. For example...I offer strep testing to my friends and family if they need it. I don't give out medication, nor do I ever suggest which ones would be ok to take for strep. I always inform them before that I am just doing the diagnostic tesing, I don't do overnights, just the rapid ones. I only take the money it costs to cover the amount of the test. I was told by someone that I am not even allowed to do that...:uhoh3: is this true? Why wouldn't I be able to? If anyone wanted, they could go to a medical supply site on the internet and buy their own strep tests...so am I doing something that is not allowed under my license? The other question is regarding allergy shots and vitamin B shots...people in my area often give themselves allergy shots and/or vit. B shots. They don't always want to, so sometimes I help them out...is this allowed or not?

Thank you for your help.:heartbeat

Interesting that the lab would accept a test without an ordering physician. I'll move your question to the New York forum, where perhaps someone can help you.
