Already took pre-reqs which equals extra classes for Adelphi?

U.S.A. New York

Hello all,

I am a little confused.

I have been taking pre-reqs for a few years because I initially was going to apply to Hunter's Nursing program. Due to all the competition and limited seats I have been looking around at other options for BSN programs.

I do not have a Bachelors degree already so I am not a candidate for the accelerated programs. However upon looking at Adelphi's program of study for their undergrad Nursing program, I see that all of the pre-reqs I took are included in their curriculum.

Does anyone know if this shaves off time from their program?

As it stands, their program is 4 years but assumes that someone is coming in without having taken any of the pre-req science classes. I can't seem to find anything that takes into consideration those who are finished with those classes already! One would think they would come across this often due to all the competition in NYC/NY and students coming to them with these classes already done.

It may shave off time in your beginning semesters but it also may not. I know that some schools, no matter what classes you have taken, you can't skip ahead of your class for example if you are suppose to take Anatomy and Physiology, Nursing 1, Nursing 2 in your first semester, but you have already taken AP1, you will not be able to put another class in it's place because you would be jumping ahead of your class. Your best bet is to call up Adelphi, they have admissions counselors who will be able to definitely answer your concerns and questions!

If you have all your pre reqs done it will take 5 semesters..i currently attend..and they told us this is most likley the last year of summer clinicals..so it will take about 2.5 years to get your BSN

Ah. Good to know.

I was worried that there would be no room to change how their curriculum goes since it looks like the actual Nursing classes are spread across 4 years.
