UNLV SON Fall 2013

U.S.A. Nevada

I wanted to start a thread for Fall 2013 UNLV School of Nursing hopefuls!

I'm in the same boat as you. Let's cross our fingers!

Hello all and hey Drea,

As far as points go it's divided by 22 OR 23 depending on when you took Nursing 299 because it use to be 4 units so now it's 3 so be careful on your calculations. For your Hesi points the easiest/shortcut way to calculate is take your average, multiply by 4 and divide by 8.75. For example 90 * 4 = 360 / 8.75 = 41.14.

I finished all my prereqs this Spring and I have 93.27 points. The 89 cutoff was not a fluke the program does seem to be getting more competitive. At the end of the day all you can do it retake HESI (if you haven't already) and retake some of the core prereqs to boost your score. Once you have done that then you have done all you can. Good luck to everyone. We will see soon what happens around mid July ish.

So last semester the cutoff was 89? Was that information gathered straight from the nursing department? How come I heard one of my friends say that she knows someone who didnt get in with a 92 points?

Yeh 89 points is straight from Nursing department. If someone didn't get in with 92 points either one of three things happened:

1. They calculated their points wrong (very common). Many dont know how to properly calculate their HESI points because they add their overall in addition to the score which I can understand why that's dont because the worksheet is kind if confusing.

2. If the took prereqs from another school then maybe their transcripts didn't transfer over before deadline or maybe not at all. That's why it's important to match the MYUNLV with your worksheet to make sure all your grades are showing.

3. Sometimes students may he denied based upon "other" things that come up on the BSN app such as a certain category of criminal charges.

If that person FOR SURE had 92 points with the appropriate calculations then if I were them on would call the need that they provide on the bottom of the denial letter to figure out specifically why.

Just wanted to say good luck to everyone. I will be attending UNLV in the fall and hopefully applying to the SON for the Summer '14 session.

Can't wait for signing sessions to close and acceptance phone calls to be made...I'm getting anxious.

Good luck to everyone that is applying for Fall '13! We will find out in about a month :nailbiting:

I was just curious if you guys think a 91.22 is good enough to be accepted for fall 2013? I have a chance to take my Hesi-a2 again, so that I can bump it up even further, but I would rather save the $85; what do you guys think?

Personally I think over 90 is cool bcus last semester the cutoff was 89 and that was supposedly the most competitive group they had seen. At least that's the rumor. I say if u don't get in retake hesi and try to score higher. Then after that you will have done all u can. GL

Posting here again! Yes I def agree to retake your hesi to boost the points up a bit. I have all of my pre reqs finished and have taken the hesi twice and have 92.91 points. Fingers crossed that its good enough to get me in!

I took my HESI twice and I wasted money bcus I didn't do better. My A&P was only 25 questions and it asked about 10 questions I was familiar with and about 15 that we didn't ever cover on A&P I and II, not was it in the study guides. I kno they have tons of test pools so hopefully those that are retaking will get a better selection than I did.

My signing is tomorro at 11 will any1 else b ther?
