Relocation

U.S.A. Nevada

Published

Hi. I am an LPN currently living & working in northern Illinois. My husband & I are seriously considering relocating to Las Vegas within a year. I've checked out the requirements for transferring my license but haven't started the process yet because we're unsure of exactly when we'd like to relocate.

Although I have dozens of questions I'm concentrating on 2 main areas. 1. In Chicago Illinois there are many different neighborhoods. Some are less safe than others. Any tips/ suggestions on areas with lower crime rates in Las Vegas? (We will need to rent at first).

2. Long distance job search. I've never done this before. I'm in my mid 50's & have been working as a home health nurse for several years. Does anyone here know of someone who's received a firm job offer without a face to face interview?

Thanks for any help/ suggestions. :)

Christina, You ARE lucky!! My sister lives 2 hours from Vegas & has been trying to convince us for years to move by her. The problem has been worrying about income (she lives in a rural area where there don't seem to be ANY jobs for LPN's). But we may be able to relocate before I find work.

I saw the temp in Vegas a couple of days ago & told my husband a couple more years here isn't worth dying over. Every year people literally drop dead while shoveling snow here. :(

Yeah living in rural NV is kind of a crap shoot when it comes to jobs because the towns are so small. I wouldn't move to rural NV...it's hard enough to find jobs in populated areas of the state. The weather has been quite nice this week! Today for peds clinical we learned how to install infant car seats outside and I was actually breaking a slight sweat in my scrubs. Not bad for February!

I'm temporarily on hold with moving forward on this. This weather has my arms & back so sore from shoveling (snow blower wouldn't start) & I'm so frazzled from trying to drive to & from Chicago in this mess that I mainly just want to go lay down by the time I get home. Please keep posting here though! For some reason the comments are giving me hope :)
