Question about UNLV

U.S.A. Nevada

Published

OK here goes... I took MATH 124 at UNLV and only got a C grade.

Problem one: I need a B grade.

Problem two: I already took the class three times (once I dropped and the other time I failed).

Problem three: UNLV only allows you to take the class twice to get a B grade. "a grade of B (3.00) or above must have been earned in either the first or second enrollment (an audit counts as an enrollment) in the following prerequisites course: Fundamentals of College Mathematics (MATH 120) or College Algebra (MATH 124)"

I was wondering if I'd be able to take MATH 120 and use it to fulfill this requirement? What do y'all think?

Hey!! I got in too! My friend text me earlier and said they started calling people. My heart started racing and I my blood pressure went up! I am so excited that I feel like i am dreaming. But this is only the beginning...we have soo much to do! My session is on March 25th at 8am. I can't believe it. I have to pinch myself:-) I am so happy for you and now we can stress together! :-)

Is it hard to get into this school? I have repeated A&P and a few other courses but have a CNA and hopefully will have a 3.5 GPA by then? When are the application deadlines because I never saw anything on the website?! Please any help would be great, I know they accept 3 times a year!

The deadline is actually under the BSN page not the pre-nursing. Go to BSN link then click Application Process. Being a CNA doesn't add any points in your score though, unlike in California. The program is competitive. It's all about GPAs and scores. Make sure u do well on the HesiA2 since you repeated A&P. 3.5 Sounds really good!! Goodluck to you! =)

I looked and downloaded all the forms, apps, checklist, etc. THERE IS NOTHING ABOUT THE APPLICATION DEADLINES???!!! Can you also tell me if you repeat a class more than twice, what will happen, does that make you ineligible to apply for the program?

it should be on the application form itself. Here's the link: http://nursing.unlv.edu/pdf/bsn%20pdfs/application_form_SON.pdf

July 1for spring , Nov. 1 for Fall, Mar. 1 for Summer

If you repeated A&P, Micro, Nurs 299 (which is Nutrition and Human Dev.), and Math more than twice and did not achieve a B, then you are ineligible.. You can contact the prenursing advisers.. This should all be in the website. You can call or email them too..

THank you so much hun, you are so awesome...million kuddos to you kiddo...LoL...just to clarify, are those the app deadlines or start dates...sorry...i just want to be as sure as possible and also, I took A&P 2 times but the first time I withdrew, does a W count as a time that it is taken? Also the second time I took it, it was a D, so I'm retaking it this spring quarter. How competitive is the program? Did you get in, and if I am ineligible when or how can I become eligible!

Congrats to those who were accepted! I am a UNLV alumni and although nursing school was a huge blur to me now that I think back on it, I am glad I went to UNLV and thought I received a great education.

And to clarify -- someone posted that you cannot receive financial aid during the summer semester -- you absolutely can get summer financial aid.

Thanks! how was the program? How soon were you able to find a job or pass NCLEX? I was curious and I checked your previous posts and you have 60K off of loans? is that from when you started College or Nursing Program?.. it's my first semester and I already owe 6K.... I'm beginning to worry b/c I'm an out of state student, and a single mom.... I guess once you start working, loans won't be so bad....

and yes, I recently found out about the Summer Aid too.. I'm so excited to start the program!! =D

Those were the deadlines.. Im almost positive W counts as a repeat.. hmm... you should really try to call the pre-nursing dept. If W count as a repeat and you got a D on the last one, then that makes you ineligible. As far as competition... I dont know yet b/c I dont really know the application pool this sem. I can tell you my statistics, however.

I got all A's and 1 B in all prerequisites that's listed on the 2nd link I sent you (Score Calculation worksheet.)

All were taken @ first attempt.

HesiA2 score: 90

yes.. I got in the Program and I will start this May.. :yeah: ummm.. if you're ineligible now, I'm not sure if you can still apply.. Im not sure if there's any time rules, but I read somewhere in this website that once you're not eligible you can longer apply... :uhoh3:

The program was definitely intense because you get no breaks between semesters (2 week breaks), thus you are in an intense program for 16 months straight but it is absolutely do-able. I took the NCLEX 4 weeks to the date after I graduated and passed with 75 questions. I had a job secured before I graduated because I worked as an Apprentice Nurse for the most part of nursing school.

The majority of my loans did not come from UNLV. I went to another university in another state where tuition was extremely expensive and that is where the majority came from. I think I took out $25,000 during the nursing program in loans.

UNLV had definitely taken the Gestapo stance on the admissions process. I understand there has to be a level of exclusivity but I didn't know TEN YEARS AGO that I was going to go into nursing and a "C" in College Algebra is going to preclude me from applying. Maybe I should take MATH 120 and sideswipe the landmine in front of me.
