Moving to Vegas; worried about RN jobs available

U.S.A. Nevada

Published

I am moving to Las Vegas to join my husband who has been relocated recently from out of state. I have been reading over all of the posts regarding the lack of RN jobs, and I am really worried. I have three years experience as an RN in urgent care. I have read that RNs are not used much in the clinical setting in Nevada. I am interested in ER, but would any of the hospitals consider me even if I have no ER experience? I have been looking online at the job openings, and they are pretty scarce. Any words of wisdom to calm my anxiety?

Don't go by the HR postings. Actually, bypass HR if you can. Call up the hospitals you are interested in and ask for the names and contact info of the Nurse Managers of the Depts you want. Then contact them directly. They will often create a position for you if they want to bring you in for an interview. I work in the ER at Sunrise and right now experienced RNs. In a couple of months they will hire a few new grads and every so often they hire a noncritical care experienced RN with the new grads (you'd get 6 weeks trg rather than the full 13weeks). It happens rarely though. I know there is a shortage of critical care RNs, not so much med/surg or clinic. You could try UMC quickcare or southwest medical quickcare. There is homecare and hospice nursing too.

Good luck.

I would start making the job hunting efforts that deefmlv suggests now before you move. You might be able to get an interview set up or even get hired before the move. Good luck.

I agree with deefromlv, bypass HR if you can, and there is a need for experienced RNs in the ICUs.

Thanks for the advice.
