Here's something that I learned the hard way that they never told me in nursing school. Get your fingerprints for licensure done EARLY!

MY Story

So I did well in school, graduated, got my interim license and landed my dream job. I've studied for NCLEX and am scheduled to take it Tuesday. I feel pretty confident and just want to get it over with so I can tack RN after my name finally :D. I was just informed by the Board of Nursing that my fingerprints were rejected by the FBI (smudged or something, I'm not sure) but I have to resubmit them. What this means is that if I test on Tuesday and pass they take my interim permit, I lose my job, and I have to wait until my prints pass the FBI check (2-4 months). I can reschedule my test but this means waiting and stressing over the test for 2 more months. Plus my manager doesn't know yet so I don't even know if he'll let me stay in my situation. So my advice to all nsg students who are graduating in next May, do your fingerprints now! I did mine in July and wasn't informed until today that my prints didn't clear. And its not an isolated incident. I was told over 200 RN licensure candidates who did their prints at the BON during July had their prints rejected by the FBI.

Eek wow, sorry to hear that Dee. I had to go through a similar problem when I went for my CNA license a few years ago. I should probably go do that now....as "May" is my graduating date....

Thanks for the heads up!

BTW how much are they charging these days? Do I still go to a place like fingerprint pros?

i had the same problem .. only mine wouldn't show up i am very blond and my skin is fair , so my finger prints wouldn't show..

i was lucky because i am a LPN and have worked in nevada for 12 years and the state board knew i had a active license so i just signed a letter from the board and was able to take my boards on time.

so yes start early ... because the FBI is very picky

The Board has an approved list of where you can go. The BON can do it too (that's where I had it done). It's about $50 there. I would definitely start it now. They won't take your CNA fingerprints.
