It may sound a little off for some but I am 34. Male. Married with no children (yet). I was considering taking a CNA course and working as a CNA whilst I complete my pre-req's for a BSN. I'm a little nervous about starting school at 34 and not sure which school to go to. Here's my thing: I'm already enrolled at UNLV because I began a Hotel Admin degree there but my heart really wasn't in it. I've done numerous calculations and have determined that I would be finished at age 38. My biggest question is UNLV or NSC? I am not worried about anything other than getting the BSN and qualifying to take the NCLEX-RN exam.

Please chime in as I am approaching Spring 2010 classes and I want to be in the best possible situation I can. Each school has slightly different requirements. I figured that since I am already a student at UNLV that this would be an easier route. Plus I heard (not sure if it is true) that since I was admitted to UNLV prior to 2006 that I would be held to a different (possibly less stringent) selection criteria. If any current, former or hopeful BSN students in Nevada have any insight I welcome it.

Don't rule out Nevada State College. They are FULLY accredited now, plus they added a part-time BSN program. They're just as hard as UNLV and CSN (as all state schools go anyway).

I was thinking of going there, but I have to do more pre-req classes. I've done some, but I decided to go the CSN route instead. I'm starting Spring 2010, YAY!

CSN is the way to go in my opinion. It rigorous but your education is solid. The NCLEX pass rates are excellent. Getting hired is another consideration and CSN has a great reputation. By the way, 34 is still very young!

Honey, I went back to school at age 40 and it was the best thing I ever did. You will do fine, I have found that maturity really helps and you will get more respect than the 20yr olds in class.

You should be fine i went back for nursing (associate) when i was 32 working 24 hours as a paramedic and had two small chidren. Anything is possible if thats what u want, your only limitations are you. See if u can get into a associate program instead of a BSN unless your going into management, which i would discourage greatly and seeing a BSN on average makes from 50 cents to one dollar an hour more than an assocaites nurse. The problem in Vegas is no one wants to hire new grads. Iv Been a male nurse for 22 i can get a job in Vegas which i did twice over the phone for ER, but had great problems trying to get a home in Vegas. Shady realastate people and the such and most properties having multiple leans on them. Well i strongly suggest u get to school and get it going, Good Luck Bryan
