Any nurse here ever heard of CSF leaks in the skull? and if so, what was the patient like?
Just curious, i was in an accident this summer and have CSF leaks from head trauma. I'm also a nursing student too, only about two more years! woowoo!

I see it quite often in pts who recently had ventrics pulled - sometimes csf leaks from the site. Usually one of the residents or PAs comes up and puts another suture in.
a suture in the head? i've never heard of that.. just blood patches, and tissue patches?

I've seen it with transphenoidal surgeries or craniotomies. These types of surgeries usually presents with clear fluid dripping out of nose. Our docs put in a lumbar drain for about 5 days then try again.

You can have a CSF leak for a number of reasons. EVD just removed, basilar skull fracture, lumbar puncture, etc.
Also, what was the nature of your accident? How long ago was it? Depending on how long ago it was, you shouldn't be having the leakage anymore. If you're still having leaking, then that's a direct route for infection somewhere. Also, how do you know it's CSF? Halo test?
You can't post something so general like that and expect a good response. I can't give you a good answer based on your posting, sorry.
