NCLEX this Friday

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Well, I made it through nursing school. The Hell I never that would end did. I am officially taking my NCLEX this Friday. Pretty nervous, but been reviewing and consistently passing Kaplan questions every day for 4 weeks. Wish me luck! Any last minute tips or pointers?

Breathe! How are you doing in Kaplan? I graduated last month and have been doing around 100-150 questions daily with kaplan. Highest score in qbank has been a 66 but I avg. around a 60. Taking question trainer 6 tomorrow and question trainer 7 on Monday. I'm scheduled for nclex next week myself, on Halloween. Lol

Several tips actually

1. Bring a jacket! You want to be comfortable and you never know what it'll be like in there.

2. DO NOT let yourself get down when you get asked a question and you have NO idea, just do your best to work through it!

3. If you narrow it to two and can't get further ask yourself "what is the best possible outcome if I do this? What is the worst possible outcome?" Pick the safer one.

4. DO NOT worry about time. Seriously, everyone says "don't spend too much time on one problem". DO NOT worry about that. Take your time, you will do better.

5. Sometimes you lose focus after so many questions, for me it's about 25, then... BREATHE! Take a min to refocus. Also if you are a person that needs to talk it out. Whisper or lip it to yourself. There are noise canceling headphones. If someone is bothered by your lips moving they can use them.

Also I'd recommend getting a good meal the NIGHT before! It's important because some people can't eat before because of nerves. Don't let scores on practice exams get you down. I did horrible on practice tests and passed with 76 questions. GOOD LUCK!

Good luck to You @(^_^)@

Thank you so very much! Such excellent advice, I keep telling myself I need to breathe! Lol. When I am taking the practice exams I try to stop around 30 or so, shut my eyes and take 10 deep breaths. Then I feel completely rejuvenated. I like number 3, about narrowing it down to two - haha. Thank you so very much :)

Good luck on Halloween! Lol. I've been scoring about 59, 60 average as well. Out of 23 sets of 50 questions, three of them have been 50 or 48, the other 20 all 55-70. So that's reassuring, I hope, lol. The QT 6 I scored 59 and QT 7 I scored 57. As long as its consistently passing, I'm happy. Lol.

Good Luck to you as well! I just finished the mini-beast...QT6 and got a 66! Holy moly is my brain fried after that one. I really rocked the beginning of that test I got a string of 13 in a row correct, missed 1, 8 in a row correct, missed 2 and 6 in a row correct! I was really happy at that. Because I hear the first 15 questions are very important. If you can get at least 10 right in a row you will set your self off the charts in being over the passing standard giving you a huge cloud to fall on for later questions.

My lowest qbank was a 44! That really put me down! I kept on going that day and ended up getting a 54 and then a 60 on the next two qbank tests. I took a day off and the first day back I was really messed up and my test strategy was all messed up.

I'm pretty consistent with my scores as well. I really hope all this effort gives me good results for the big day! Please report back after your test!

Wishing you all the best!

I JUST got home from taking my NCLEXPN in Ft. Lauderdale. Let me just say...I used the PVT, and according to that, I PASSED!! I am completely overjoyed!! But, about the test...they let me begin as soon as I arrived....an hour and a half before my SCHEDULED exam time. I had to use the earphones to cancel out the noise of one of the secretaries in the other room talking too loud at one point, which broke my concentration, but I just closed my eyes and took a few deep breaths. It worked. I was really anxious and found it hard to concentrate when I went past question 75, then 85, then 90, but then I stopped counting. It shut off somewhere around 110 questions. Based on what I got, I would just say that if you have a good, well rounded, BASIC knowledge, you will PASS!! There were questions I had NO IDEA about, but really those were only a few. Know how to prioritize you patient care. In case of ...WHO IS THE MOST URGENTLY IN NEED OF CARE!!?? Also, review you basic procedures, step by step!! I missed one question because I could not remember which order to put one of the steps in. Felt so silly, because I should have known that one. I really think the thing that helped me the most was to REMAIN CALM!!!! Deep breathe when I felt my heart racing and palms sweating. It would not have been the end of the world had I failed. But I would have been extremely disappointed. Be prepared for a LOT LOT LOT of select all!!! At one point I thought I was going to fail for sure because there were so many, but it's all good now. Thank God, and hang in there.....do not let nerves get the best of you. STAY CALM, and just look at it as if you were taking another test in nursing school. Good Luck , everyone!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!
