Kaplan Diagnostic & Q Trainer

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hey Kaplan peeps, I just started the Kaplan program (self-paced online, not live classes) and I have a couple quick questions about the diagnostic and question trainer tests.

We are supposed to take the diagnostic and QT 1-3A before we watch any class content videos, correct? I already watched the orientation and decision tree videos, because it made sense to me to do so, but those actually appear to come after the diagnostic and QT 1-3.

So I feel like I had maybe a slight advantage because I knew about the decision tree. So far I have scored 77% on the diagnostic and 68% on the QT-1, are these ok scores? Haven't taken an others yet. I can't find where they say what a good score is (or isn't). I also haven't done any of the readings yet, just got the e-book downloaded. What order did you do these in? Videos and readings first or QT's first?

Maybe stupid questions; I am not especially great at self-paced online classes, but I didn't have a choice this time. I am hoping to take the NCLEX July 20, is this too soon to expect to get through the class? I know they recommend 4-6 weeks and I have about 3 weeks (and a busy schedule...)

Thanks for any insight you may have on this!

Hi. I am just now about to finish Kaplan too and test on Wed. I went to the classes and our instructor told us that the score that you want to shoot for is 65. They say if you have 55 than you SHOULD be ok but 65 is where you want to be. The trainers get harder as you go. The #6 & #7 trainers goal is 60. The goal score for the rediness and diagnostic is 60 percent I believe but don't quote me on that part. I know for sure that it is for the readiness test though. They say that you should also try to do at least 90% of the Q bank questions and it should take you as long or longer to remediate each test. I think that you should have plenty of time before your test. Just make sure that you also review content too. Lastly, from what have heard from my classmates who have just tested, it is primarily all application and analysis type questions oh and lots of prioritization questions. Good luck with your studies. From your scores so far, I think you will do GREAT!!!

Thanks. Did you do the readings or mostly just focus on the questions? I'm wondering which way my time would be better spent, since I may not be able to do it all with the time I have available. And did you take your Q-trainers before or after going to class?

Good luck on the NCLEX, come back and tell us how it went!

I didn't have any "readings" to use. Just my powerpoints and books from school. Kaplan did not give us any reading or reading materials. We had to per our NS instructors, complete trainers 1 & 2 prior to our live review class. The rest we were allowed to do at our own pace. I believe Kaplan recommends that you do one trainer per week with tons of Q bank questions inbetween. I would highly recommended doing as many Q bank questions as you can daily and spend time remediating all of the Kaplan questions that you have. Even the questions that you have gotten correct. I learned a lot of info that we did not learn in school. It also helped me learn how to answer the questions. My exam is tomorrow and I am both nervous and excited all at the same time. I believe the operative word is nervous mostly. I will keep you posted as to how it goes and good luck on your studies :)

I took the Kaplan live review class, and our instructor told us to complete Question Trainers 4-7 after our class finished. I had two weeks worth of class. I did one question trainer per day after finishing up. And your scores are great so far! :)
