i was going to post this as response to an existing question but i changed my mind.

does futures hire any adn grads? furthermore do they even hire people who did not already know someone working at an ssm hospital? what kind of assistance do they offer for tuition?

Yes they hired alot of people from my class. i graduated from Meramec. Futures is very competitive. Last time they only hired 75 people for the last session. It doesnt matter who you know. All I know is you have a better chance of getting in if you work for SSM. Because they hire internal candidates first. However not all internal candidates get hired and still save a few for the outsiders. Tuition reimbursement haha ya right. They offer nothing. FYI futures puts you where ever the need is. So if your expecting getting like ICU or ED good luck w that bc that rarely happens. I have seen it done but its rare. From what I noticed the need seems to be at St. Mary's.

I was with the first Futures group last year and I know of several people who got hired into ER and ICU, many of them ADNs. However, the above poster is correct in that you will be placed according to need, however, you will have the option of stating your preference. I did not work for SSM when I was hired, however, I did know someone who worked there. However, I don't think that made a difference as it didn't even come up until I needed to put a reference down for background check.

Does anyone know when they actually start doing phone interviews for the September/October Futures group? Long story short, I was hoping with good reason to be contacted for a phone interview. That hasn't happened. I am honestly very surprised, given the circumstances, and I am wondering if it is worth reaching out to someone in HR via phone simply to express my interest once again.

Everyone's hiring practices seem to be shrouded in mystery.

Thanks for the info. Soon to be Spring 2012 grad here. Ive got my heart set on Peds, but if its not my first job , so what. Ive got my whole career ahead of me. I just want to serve people.

TayBabyNurse: Consider starting to apply during your last semester. Don't wait until you graduate. You'll find out the hard way that you missed every opportunity. This year, SSM was taking applications for Futures from mid-January until the first week or so of February, and there was a set cutoff point for accepting applications, but no one was told that. You only knew IF you were called for a phone interview and invited for a subsequent in-person interview. So anticipate that there will be an info meeting of sorts in January, and be ready to apply IN January. Later on, you're just out of luck.
