Hey! Has anyone applied to St. Luke's in Kansas City for the Fall of 2012? If so, do you know when we should be recieveing our acceptance letters?

Good luck! :)

I know someone that received a call with an offer of acceptance from St. Luke's on Friday. Has anyone else heard anything? Do they call everyone who is accepted? Mr. ******** told this individual that letters would be going out in the next week or so...

When my class started, Fall 2012, we all received both a phone call and a letter. I have not heard anything regarding when your letters will be going out, but know, things at St. Luke's tend to run a little behind schedule..... They are making a lot of changes and it tend to slow things down.

I was told the decision was made last week on the 18th, letters would be mailed out on monday and by the end of this week we should all know where we stand. I did receive a phone call and was told that i was accepted. Good luck to the rest of you guys.

I, too, have been accepted! So excited to start! Does anyone know what our class size will be or how many applicants they had? I have some other people asking me about applying and I don't have the info for them. Congrats to everyone! :D

For the Fall semester they had over 500 applicants and only accepted 96. I don't think they've changed anything drastic for this Spring semester. If any of you have questions about the school, etc I am happy to help!

I haven't received a phone call, but was told that not everyone who is accepted gets a phone call, but will still get a letter. I heard first week of November is when we will receive our letters...crossing my fingers!

Michaela,

Thank you for the information you have provided so far. You have been very helpful! If I may, I have one more question for you. At what point in nursing school are you qualified to work as a CNA? I do not have my CNA and will not have the opportunity to get one. However, I do need a job throughout school and am hoping that we will take the Fundamentals of Nursing Course in the first semester. Can you shed some light on this for me? Will I be qualified to work as a CNA after or during my first semester, or does that come later?

Thank you again for your help!

Leslie

Sorry, Michaela, one more set of questions:

Do most students work during the school year? Are you able to schedule classes in such a way that allows you to work during the weekdays? Sorry about all of the questions; it's very difficult to get answers about these things from the school!

I got a phone call 2 weeks ago. They sent me some paperwork and I mailed it back and my $200 deposit. Should be getting my other papers and info in the mail any day now. I am going to the Nov. 13th open house if anyone else is going, it would be awesome to meet some of you!

I know how difficult it is to get straight answers from schools, thats why I offered to help :)

You will take Foundations during your first semester. After that class is completed (the end of the 1st semester) you will then be qualified to work as a CNA. I highly reccomend NOT working during your first semester if at all possible, and if you absolutely have to, try to limit your hours. The first semester is demanding and is not like prereqs. It will take you a couple of weeks to get in the swing of things and I HIGHLY suggest you do NOT get behind. If you stay caught up, nursing school is not too bad. If you fall behind, even a week, you will regret it. They will tell you at orientation they don't want you working during the first semester. They will not bother you about it, or even question you unless you get below a 75% on a test. If you do, you will have to meet w/ your professor (regardless if you have a job or not, but I hear that question does come up in the meeting). If you get below a 75% on two tests (Which by the way, is failing) you will meet with the dean.

Personally, I do not work, but I do have 2 children and still take care of all tasks around the house. I have A's in all of my classes, and still have plenty of time to socialize. I have some friends that work and are doing just fine, and a friend that is failing a class and she says it is all due to working. It really depends on your time management skills, which you will find are crucial to success.

Hope that helps, and let me know if you need anything else--- before or during school! :)

P.S. You will probably have trouble finding a job that will work with your first semester schedule, if you are not currently working for them. My schedule this first semester (I think yours is very similiar) has been :

Monday: 8-11:30

Tuesday: 9:30-3:00

Thursday: 6:45-3:00 for clinicals

I was told the decision was made last week on the 18th, letters would be mailed out on monday and by the end of this week we should all know where we stand. I did receive a phone call and was told that i was accepted. Good luck to the rest of you guys.

Hi!! Congrats on your acceptance. Would you mine me asking your gpa and teas test when you applied? And also are you volunteering? Thank you!

Keizie,

I had a 3.95 GPA and scored an 89% on the TEAS. I've volunteered here and there with a few organizations, but nothing ongoing or regular. I do have experience working in the medical field, though this experience is not in nursing.
