Trouble finding a job as a New Grad

U.S.A. Minnesota

Published

Hey everyone, I just graduated with my ASN in May and passed the NCLEX a few weeks ago. I have been applying to jobs like crazy since back in April but havn't heard from anyone and the interviews I've had didn't bring a job either.

I am looking for a position in the St. Cloud or Minneapolis/Saint Paul areas. Does anyone know of a hospital whose new grad residency program is still accepting applications, or of a hospital who will hire new grads onto staff without a residency program? A big problem I am running into is that people prefer BSNs. I also passed NCLEX, so I feel that I am just as good as a BSN who is new.

The only offers I have gotten for jobs have been from other states. . . .mostly in the south. Arizona, Oklahoma, Gerogia, Texas. I would move if I have to, but I was hoping to stay in MN to continue my education.

Any suggestions or hints or comments would be a huge help!

Thanks all.

i graduated from a bsn program in march, 09 and passed my nclex in june, 09. i also live in california and no one is hiring new grads. i see a lot of lvn positions or at least one year experience nursing positions. i am getting frustrated and worried i have student loads to pay and do not know what to do.

HealthEast is talking about not even opening up their new grad program this fall to outsiders. I've heard that they are only hiring 10 new grads throughout the entire system and because so many PCAs are working there who are actually registerd RNs, they don't need to look to the outside.

I'm also a new grad, and I've talked to two different HR people who hire nurses at major health systems in the MSP area. They both have strongly encouraged me to move out of state for a year or two to get some experience and then come back. No one in my class has landed a job in MN.

MSP has laid off a bunch of nurses, and when they start hiring back, nurses with experience are going to be the first to get hired, not new grads. I know you want to stay, but it might be better for your career to move away for a year and then come back to MN as soon as you can.

Good luck!

Just curious..where did you graduate from?
