Getting CNA job w/out cert while in School

I know that every hospital does things differently, but with the hospital that our nursing students do their clinicals at, the advisors can arrange for the students to get positions called "paid student nurses". They're not CNA's specifically, but they do the same type of duties, plus see a few other things. My best advice is to go right to your advisor, and see what he or she can set up for you. They have the answers to almost everything! Hope that helps. Good luck! :up:

I have completed my first year of school and all of our instructors recommended doing this but every hospital I've applied to has turned me down. Why is this can you even get a job w/out certification? Our instructors say that hospitals love nursing students, but most places you apply online and there is no where that you can state your a nursing student... ANY advice...I really want to start working in the medical field during my 2nd year of nursing school and want to transition while I have the summer off. Help!
Oh I have applied at North Memorial, Methodist, and the Allina chains.

Have you completed a semesters of clinical? USually that is acceptable in place of a NA class. I would send an application in directly with a resume that has your nursing school info on it under education. I know many who got jobs at the places you listed and it wasn't too hard. Many need NA's. I would also call directly to the floor you want to work on and talk to a manager. I don't think the online applications are the way to go. It is also much easier to get a job at the hospital you are working at if you are a NA there. Good luck.

Yes 2 semesters actually. One of the semesters at one of the hospitals, that I applied at. I thought it was strange that they all turned me down when our instructors told us how much the hospitals loved having nursing students.
