Anyone work at Fairview Southdale or have any experiences with this hospital?

I have an interview with them for a position on a med/surg floor.

I will work as a RN. If I do get the job it will be my first. Do they ease you in? There must be some sort of training program, right?

Southdale has a reputation of being a good hospital. I have not worked there, but I did work for Fairview University for 5 years. I want to say my orientation on a med-surg unit there was about six weeks. They were pretty good with tailoring the orientation to what you need/want. That is a good question to ask during the interview-what does the orientation entail and how long is it. By the way, now that I have worked for a few hospital

systems, I think Fairview's benefits are pretty good. I actually miss that system. Good luck with your interview!

I work at UMMC-Fairview (Riverside Campus). It's been my experience that all the nurses get great orientations at Fairview. It's been awhile since I was in orientation but 6 weeks sounds about right. And when you're done with orientation and you feel you need more in a certain area....just ask!!

My wife and I are thinking about moving there for my job. She is looking at this hospital. Did they mention you starting pay. My wife has 1 year of Critical Care.

Is there differential pay?

Good health benefits?

Any help would be helpful for us.

Hi,

I believe Southdale Fairview is looking to hire nurses. I do not know how much your wife would be paid but I know that new RN grads are started off at $26/ hour with a $4 differential for working the night shift and a $2 differential (I think) for working weekends. Nurses at Southdale are unionized. I think the pay at Southdale Fairview is comparable to other hospitals throughout the city - especially since the nurses are unionized.

The benefit package does seem comprehensive. I just started so I have little experience with actually making use of the benefits package.

I hear Hennepin County Medical Centre is hiring. There is actually a clinic position on Lake Street (?) that is looking to hire. I heard of this position from a friend I met at Southdale. She quite enjoyed her experience at Hennepin County. I believe nurses at Hennepin are also unionized.

Nurses at Region's Hospital are not unionized. I heard from a friend that nurses must do all the work i.e., the work of LPNs, Nursing Assistants, and Health Unit Coordinators (unit clerks).

Hi there.. I just applied to Fairview Southdale Hospital. I was wondering how much does Fairview pay for LPN and what is the shift differential for evening and night? also, what days and hours are the orientation if applying for an evening position??

Hey all!

I currently work for Fairview and I found that their orientation for new grads was pretty lame compared to orientations that other hospitals offered (according to my classmates) BUT that being said the nurses here are wonderful and will help you out (at least on Riverside)......
