What was school like for you and other questions...

HI! This is my first post ever!

My name is Andrea and I am doing my pre-req @ Davenport University. I plan to apply to their nursing program in May 2009. There are over 600 applicants and only 30 spots! Yikes! I am scared! Right now I am taking BIO 105, then all I'll have left is A&P I and II and then I can apply! I also should take microbio too.... Anyway, enough about all that...LOL

My questions: where did you go to school, how hard was it for you, did you get in the first time, etc.

Also, what did you have to wear for your clinical rotations and what do you wear now? Please include where you went/work now and the scrub colors/rules since I'd like to snap up some scrubs on sale if I find them.

Thanks!:D

Hi Andrea.

Good luck with all your classes and getting into the program-- sounds like a lot of competition for only a few spots.

I am going to start Wayne State's nursing program this fall. I got in on my first try-- there were 48 of us accepted into the traditional program out of around 200 who applied and had completed all the prereqs. At Wayne we wear all white for our clinical rotations-- white pants, white shoes, white knee length lab coat, and white top (although we can't wear a standard v neck scrub top since they have issues with cleavage showing/we may too closely resemble hospital staff at some locations in full scrubs)

You can pick up some sale scrubs if you want to wear them around the house, but a lot of colors depend on where you work. A lot of hospitals have you wear a specific color based on your job (techs wear one color, RNs another color, Drs another color etc) but at some you can wear whatever you want. All hospitals have their own specific policies regarding dress. I'd say wait before picking up scrubs since you won't know what you're going to need and it will be several years before you need them and they may potentially not fit (beware the "nursing school spread").

Welcome to all nurses:loveya:

I don't really know anything about the scrubs needed or specific rules regarding color. I go to WCCCD and have all of my pre and co reqs finished. I applied to the nursing program for this fall but due to the office losing my paperwork I had a piece of paperwork dated too late and was denied entrance, but plan to reapply and intend to be accepted for the winter. My GPA, deadlines for paperwork, etc are all in order so there should be no issues with winter acceptance..I'm still keeping my fingers crossed and shaking in my boots anyways though! lol

Goodluck in the program

Went to OU. Got in first time. Did pre-reqs at Schoolcraft (much cheaper and closer). Did all my sciences there. Was in the accelerated pgm at OU and was a ton of work and even more stress. Lost some hair and gained some weight. But I lived through it and graduated.

Had to wear all white for clinicals. You could wear a T-shirt under your scrub top if the top was cut too low. Work at Oakwood Hostpital now. Can wear any color except a med blue, which is what the OR wears.

I bought all new print tops and solid colored bottoms. Woohoo!

:yeah:
