I can't apply for the Winter 08 program like I had hoped. I've got the pre'reqs done, but my youngest son suffered head trauma in the final weeks of micro - I wound up with a 79.4%, LOUSY 'C.' This grade is obviously bringing my GPA down, so I'm taking it again this (fall) semester.

My situation: If I get an A in micro, I'll be applying with a 3.77. If I get a B, I'll apply with a 3.55. C (current grade) would put me at a 3.38...which, as far as I know, would only get me laughed at - right?

I've talked to a few classmates that have recieved their Fall 2007 acceptance letters; yet all of them say they 'barely made it.' One friend has a 3.9, but the other two are 3.66 and 3.51

Does anyone know the 'REAL' minimum GPA for this fall?

FYI: I have a 'economically useless' degree in Quality Management (was an engineer for 12 yrs before my youngest/2yr old son was born with special needs) and the few jobs out there, well, they're paying a few pennies. I'm nearing 40 and don't have all the time in the world. I also have a husband who's grown accustomed to my old salary...he's not exactly happy over the thought of not having 2 dimes to rub together for another 3 years.

Do I have any chance of getting into the Fall 2008 program with a 3.77 or a 3.55? Should I throw in the towel if I only get a B in micro? That's all I need...I already took the NET. (I'm also hoping that 3 letters of recommendation from ped's, and chief of surgery/Children's DMC help...every bit counts right?)

PS I've also thought about earning an ADN from HFCC, or a BSN from local universities - but they all require chemistry. WAY BACK IN THE DAY, high schools didn't even offer chemistry!

Anyhow, sorry for the long vent/post. I just feel like I'm beating my head against the wall and wish someone could give me concrete answers!

So, I ask again, "Does anyone know the 'REAL' minimum GPA for this fall?"

THANKS!

I applied with a 3.78 before the semester was over (it ended with me having a 3.85 but the nursing office didn't count that gpa because I applied before I got those grades on my transcript.) Anyway, I didn't feel as though I "barely made it" with a 3.78, I felt sorta comfortable with my GPA :uhoh21:. I couldn't be too comfortable because the gpa change from semester to semester. But I got in.

But the lowest gpa that got in this semester is rumored to be a 3.44. Call the nursing office to check.

Letters of recommendations are good but at WCCCD it's all about GPA first then NET scores for tie-breaking if GPA's are close. A co-worker and I both had our letter of recommendations from our manager at CHM/DMC and from experienced nurses at CHM/DMC, she didn't get if because of her low GPA. I think she had a 3.2 and her NET scores were slightly higher than mine.

But again check with the nursing office because getting into a nursing program is too important to receive rumored information (like I just provided ). They are sooo helpful there and will answer all you questions.

I heard the cut off was 3.3 but don't quote me on that. But if you have around at 3.5 gpa, you are very competitive for just about any school. You say that you have a degree already so why not try a accelerated 2nd degree program? That may be a better route for you. For OU, you will need two chemistry classes, however once you are in the program it is only for one year. If you have all pre-reqs done for WCCC, you should be fine with most pre-reqs for a 2nd degree program. Here is more information: http://www2.oakland.edu/nursing/files/2ndDegreeFlyerJune2007.pdf

I hope this helps.

Hello. I was accepted for the Fall 07 class and I had a 3.67. I sat next to a girl at orientation who was an alternate. She had a 3.44. She was told that the cut off was 3.44, and the NET was the tiebreaker to fill the slots, and then they took the next 20 3.44's in line as alternates. As of the end of the second day of orientation, they took up through alternate number 8 (the girl sitting next to me). But the accept them all the way until the first week of classes if some students choose to defer their acceptance until January. Also, all of the alternates who don't get a slot, are automatically accepted for January.

What were you grades in the other pre-reqs? A 3.38 might be cutting it close but a 3.55 would probably be ok. Would it be easier to take a different one of the pre reqs to get a better grade? Also, are all of your co-reqs done? I STRONGLY SUGGEST that you get them out of the way. Also, if they are all done before you apply they will go off the GPA of the pre reqs AND the coreqs together.

Also, It is required to have those recommendation letters, but they are mainly supportive documents, because GPA is the only thing that is used to determine entrance into the program. The NET is the tiebreaker. The rest of the documents are basically just things that they make you get. I think they do it to test your efficiency.

Anyways, good luck, and I hope your son is doing well.
