Nurses that graduated from Wayne County Community College

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Hi, I have applied at WCCCD and hope to start Spring, 2014. I have heard a few things that are making me wonder if going there is the right choice. I knew that the program was not nationally accredited but have read all that means is you can't work for a hospital/clinic that is run by the federal government. Now I am being told that hospitals outside of the state of MI will not hire you. Does anyone know which is correct?

I also found out that Children's Hospital will not hire nurses from WCCCD. I'm not sure why or if that includes all of the DMC but I am worried if they have stopped hiring will other local hospitals as well?

If anyone went there could give me information about the accreditation or if they had a hard time getting a job because they went there, it would be appreciated. Thanks

Wen902 thanks for making that correction, because it is important that we stay factual and supported on this site, and not spread unsubstantiated rumors. We all, those of us who have applied, are more than likely, in a stress mode of being very inquisitive about what is going to happen to us in getting into the program. However, I make this comment, because every since August 19, 2013 until Oct 3, 2013 , you have presented questions from rumors, that you claimed you heard, yet posed them as questions, which actually leads to rumors. Yet if they were true rumors...what is the relevance, I ask,...well so what...don't attend WCCCD. I have been following this site of comments since I applied in May 2013, and I have never felt a need to comment until your last comment Oct 3, 2013. Because no matter how unsubstantiated your comments have been, that comment hit home. If your comment had been true...that would mess with my time table of putting my life on a very different schedule. The very next morning, Oct 4, 2013, I called WCCCD nursing office, for the first time, to verify and clarify your information that you put on this site. I not only talked to the Dean, but 2 staff members, who all stated unequivalently that date had not been moved again, and everyone for Spring 2014 hopefuls would hear within 2-3 week, at the latest 4weeks. And by the way, they apologized sincerely for people who feels that they need to put out rumors to show that they are in the know. All I am saying to you and anyone else who choose to put information on this site, be supportive, be factural (no hear say), don't try to impress, be a team player, and by all means keep us informed...because this is my life's goal and I don't need any additional stress. I would also like to Thank SmackerNurse, Darien, NayNayRN2b, and Trish_pkh...for keeping it REAL!

I'm sorry that you feel I was trying to start a rumor or impress, that wasn't my intention. I was told by two different students that they had papers from the office showing a new deadline. I thought it was reliable information but obviously I was wrong. I should have waited until I called the office. As soon as I found out I posted that I was wrong.

I was upset because this is also my dream and I don't want anything putting it in

Jeopardy.

Wen902, Again, I thank you for your correction. However, as I have indicated, I have been one of the silent ones, who have set back and watch the flurry of rumors, in that I have, followed this site for quite a while, quietly looking on, viewing the comments, suggestions, and rumors, and felt that there was no need to comment...until you made that last rumor error...that effected me personally. That is when I had to follow up on the facts. I have noticed, throughout your 55 posts, starting back with the WCCCD Spring 2013 hopefuls, several students have had to correct you on wrong rumored information. Particularly on the August 19, when several WCCCD nursing students and a graduate, had to come on board this site, to address and correct the rumor of WCCCD nursing students not being hired at Children Hospital (DMC)...of course there were several more, but I think you get my point. I do not wish to discourage any ones opinion or discussion on this sight. But again...all I am saying, to you and anyone else, who choose to put information on this site, be supportive, be factual (no hear say), don't try to impress, be a team player, and by all means keep us informed...because this is my life's goal and I don't need any additional stress, nor does anyone else. We all are going to make it...now or later...because all of us are great candidates to become GREAT NURSES, at WCCCD or some place else!

I think the real issue now is getting a BSN. Most hospitals from what I hear is requiring it now. I received my accceptance letter for WCCCD Spring 2014 RN program. So the best thing is to start searching for BSN programs.

Specializes in M/S, MICU, Hospice, Homecare.

Ohio university has a great RN to BSN program. Pain free transfer from WCCCD...I recommend taking all of the gen ed classes you can at WCCCD now...chem 105, statistics, history, philosphy, foreign language, etc...then all you will have is the nine nursing classes and junior comp. Nursing classes are 5 weeks long and you can take three each semester one every five weeks....you can finish in three semesters if you dont have any gen ed classes to take....good luck
