MSU Accelerated Nursing

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

I applied to the upcoming may 2018 cohort for the accelerated nursing program at Michigan state. I'm waiting to hear back from admissions and am getting anxious. I have a 3.5 overall Gpa and 3.3 prereq gpa. Wondering if anyone else has gotten accepted yet to this cohort or what past admitted applicants credentials are.

I also applied for the May cohort. I haven't heard anything yet but I looked at last year's thread and it looks like they started hearing back on January 12th. Hopefully that means we'll hear back soon! My GPA is around 3.8 but I don't have a lot of healthcare experience.

Made a call to MSU Nursing Admissions yesterday and was told decisions would be made last part of Jan or early Feb. If anyone hears anything please let us know!

Howdy! I'm currently in the accelerated program (graduating August 2018). I honestly don't think the accelerated program is that competitive. My diploma GPA was 3.6 and I want to say my pre-req GPA was around 3.3-3.5. Last year I found out I was accepted on 1/12/17. I think they take into consideration that some people haven't been in school in decades when they apply and some just finished their first degree right before the program started.

I had a good deal of volunteering and work experience as well.

Hope this helps!

Side note, my cohort is pretty diverse. Some people have worked in a hospital for 2+ years, some have ever set foot in a hospital. Some people have healthcare related degrees (kinesiology, nutrition, etc) degrees, some people have english/history/social science degrees.

Thanks for the info safehavens, do you think that healthcare experience would be viewed as a plus? Also do MSU alumni have an edge of any kind? Appreciate any input you might have

I definitely think healthcare experience is valued. It doesn't necessarily have to be in a hospital or be a very hands on level of care (I only candy-striped for a couple years). As far as alumni having an edge, I can't say for sure. The majority of us are MSU students, so take that as you will. We do have students from OU, GVSU, EMU, etc, but a lot of us are MSU alumni.

I got an email today saying that they haven't made any admissions decisions yet. They'll have decisions by the end of February.
