Hello, I take my exam on May 12. Can someone please give me some tips? Can we use a calculator on math portion? I read that some people said you could. Also, what type of math problems should I be focusing on? How detailed is the science part? Any and all information would be extremely helpful! I have a 4.0 and I am freaking out :)

I studied for what i thought was for ever and still ended up with only the average a 70% There is no good way to study for it. The book does not help and you get to use the calculator on the computer and that is it. The A&P is somewhat easy. There were things on there that were worded very tricky so make sure that you read the question more than once. Math is fractions galore and knowing how to increase dip time or decrease it too. It is not easy but try to stay positive! Good luck.

The test is very random. I did not study for the Kaplan entrance exam. Yes, you can use Kaplan's built-in calculator. The math is very basic; decimals, fractions mostly. Good luck.

Well I took the Kaplan today and scored a 79. How do I determine how many points this is worth when calculating my overall points for the program? Thanks :) Also, I transferred in my Eng 101 class and received a 3.5 on it. I have a 4.0 in everything else, including the double weighted classes. Can someone tell me if I have a good chance?! I'm freaking out.

What do you mean by dip time? Thanks!

What is dip time?!? :/ I'm so nervous for this exam! I only have 54.45 points from the gpa portion so I am heavily relying on doing well on the Kaplan. Any study tips, pointers, etc are greatly appreciated! Thanks

I have no clue what dip time is....

I thought I replied already, but it must not have worked.

Study tips:: I liked "The Idoiots Guide to Passing Nursing Exam" I checked it out at my local library. I also used the Kaplan book. I liked how the Idiots guide simplified everything and made the test seem less complicated.

Math: Know how to calculate percentages, fractions, decimals, and simple algebra. There are no conversions from metric that I remember.

Reading comprehension: i would recommend reading the tips in the study guide. Ie: do not read entire passage, use scrap paper to make notes

Writing: Basic grammer skills..but it is confusing. I scored low on this. You have to pick which sentence is missing punctuation...it was harder than it seemed.

Science: sucked. It's hard to determine what to study. I would recommend knowing all the systems, there is no anatomy. Read questions carefully. Know blood flow, circulatory system, nervous system, etc.

Not one person in my room asked for extra scrap paper except for me. I used about 15 sheets. I think it really helped me because i was able to narrow down answers on paper instead of staring at the screen.

Also keep this in mind. I think they definitely over stress you out for the exam. It really is NOT that hard. If they would give us a better idea of what to study, I think the scores would be much higher. I had plenty of time. I finished in just about 2 hours and you have 4. Also you can take breaks between each sections and the timer stops. So relax and study up!

Here is how you figure the points:

So you take your kaplan score Ie: 79/100= X/35 and do the math..so in this case: (79*35) / 100 = 27.65 This is your kaplan score.

There are

60 GPA points

35 Kaplan points

5 bonus points for no transfer credits

also I believe if you are reapplying your get 5 bonus points as well.

Total : 100 points

so if you had a

54.45 GPA pts

27.65 Kaplan

5 pts for less than 8 transfer credits

Total: 87.1

I am not sure what the cutoff is...I would really like to know because I am waiting!! I hope this helps :) Good luck!

I fear I'm asking a dumb question, but I don't know how to figure how many GPA points I have?! Some classes are single weight, and some are double weight...?
