Escort/witness for exams?

  1. Hey guys - I'm curious about this. What is your workplace policy or personal policy regarding the use of a female escort (not that kind) or witness when performing an exam or other "under-gown" care? Do you believe that a male nurse is at significantly higher risk for accusations of inappropriateness and such?

Ok I'm not a guy but I wanted to chime in. Males in my workplace are no dfferent than the feamles. they provide personal care and examine female patients without supervision. We have both male nurses and male aides. Can you immagine how time consuming it would be if a male needed a female to come with him every time he did something to a female patient? That would be im[possible.

Absolutely! That's why I'm curious to learn how prevalent it might be.

I work in an outpatient family med clinic. Our policy is two employees must be in the room for any exams of the genitals on male or female patients. We try to have at least one female employee when the patient is female but sometimes due to staffing it is two males (physician and nurse or CMA). However when we have to do urine drug screens the patient must be observed when giving the sample and since that is a one on one observation in a closed restroom we have a nurse or provider of the same sex observe. I'm not sure what our hospital's policy is though for inpatient care.
