Could use some advice on a work issue :)

Nurses Men

Published

Hey everyone got a question on something that is going on at work. I am a newer grad (had my RN for about a year) , and I am working is Psych. I really love it but I applied for MedSurg first and never heard anything back so I took the Psych job at the same hospital. I was transferring one of my patients that became medically unstable to Medsurg yesterday, and was joking around with one of the nurses there about how they "don't hire guys on your floor", expecting a laugh she instead says "I know, and I know who is making that decision. She feels there are too many gyn issues to have guys working here". Of course that argument is complete crap as they also have TURP's and anything else you could imagine. So anyway I played it off as no big deal. I am about the least sensitive guy you will find, but it really is bothering me that i am not getting my 1 year medsurg experience because of this. I should say that out of 30+ nurses they have no males. I really don't wanna rock the boat, but I don't wanna get screwed out of needed experience a newer nurse needs. What should I do?

Thanks in advance,

Phil

my bud had a similar situation to you (we work for different hospitals), so i applied several times (to test out his theory, only females hired in a particular dept), i didn't get the jobs (he knew females got them), so i raised hell and got a lawyer.

end result, i got paid, my lawyers got paid, my bud got the job he wanted in the first place (his transfer request while all this was going on was accepted, haha), i can't ever work at his hospital (didn't really want the job in the first place, already had jobs) and three people at his hospital got fired/retired/transferred due to it, sweet.

don't rock the boat where you work, get someone to do it for you.
